There is no doubt about it: Indian weddings are massive affairs. It is not unusual for a couple to begin to save for a daughter’s wedding on the day she is born! When that big day finally arrives – be it 18, 20, 25, or more years later – then just about everybody that the family knows is invited to the wedding and reception. This can mean that as many as 500, 600, or 700 people attend, and sometimes even more.
But with Indian weddings there are more celebrations and ceremonies than just that of the wedding itself. One of the most important is the Mehndi, which is the ceremony where the bride, (and today quite often the groom), have their hands and feet, and maybe also their arms, decorated with a paste made from the plant henna.
Party Time: Singing, Dancing, Food, And Drink
It is a form of temporary skin decoration similar in appearance to a tattoo which is applied by a skilled artist during a party at which the bride and all her friends spend time singing, dancing, and enjoying food and drink. The bride will sit on a Mehndi stage while the artist carries out the work, which can take some hours. The intricate patterns very often contain the name of the groom hidden within them and one of the fun activities is when the guests try to find it after the decoration has been completed.
Of course, the venue has to be decorated with plenty of colourful and bright fabrics, decorative cushions, bangles, panels, and more. The Mehndi often takes place the day before the wedding itself, although it can be earlier.
The actual wedding ceremony is also full of colour, as is the reception afterwards. At Kenza Creations, our speciality is providing the wedding ceremony and wedding reception decorations, wherever your venue may happen to be. It would be fair to say that these are nothing short of a riot of colour for the reception, which will usually go on well into the small hours.
We can provide absolutely everything that you need for the venue both for the Mehndi and the wedding day itself. Some of our clients know exactly how they want their venues decorated, and it goes without saying that we can accommodate whatever you wish.
However, if you are short of ideas, or perhaps more likely confused by the endless possibilities, then please book an appointment to meet us, and we can sit down together and discuss all your options.
There is no obligation, but we think that when you have seen what we can do, you will be more than happy to have us provide all the decor for the big day.
